What is Spiritual Attack and Why God Attacks People Part 2

10. God destroyed the ten spies that brought up false report and stirred up the people of God against Moses.

“36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37 even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the Lord.” Numbers 14:36-37

11. The Company of Korah were swallowed up by the earth by God’s judgement and fire consumed the other 250 men that offered incense.

“29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me.
30 But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord.
31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32 and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. 35 And there came out a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.” Numbers 16:29-35

12. God sent fiery serpents to bite and kill His own people.

“4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of
Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
6 And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.” Numbers 21:4-6

There are so many cases of God attacking people both His children and others in The Bible. Let’s take a look at the New Testament as some people may think it is a different ball game since grace has come to us.

1. God attacked Ananias and Sapphira for lying.

“1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 and kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4  Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9  Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10  Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.” Acts 5:1-10

2. King Herod was struck down dead by God’s angel and eaten up by worms immediately.

“21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.” Acts 12:21-23

3. Apostle Paul commanded blindness upon the wizard by the move of the Holy Spirit.

“8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10 and said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12  Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.” Acts 13:8-12

You will do well to go and study the book of Revelations and see the terrible judgement of God upon those who refuse to accept Him as their Saviour.
I took my time to go through all these to give you an understanding that spiritual attacks can also come from God and not just from the devil alone.

Why does God attack people?

I want you to know another strong truth here. God can attack and do attacks both His children and those who are not for several reasons. For this the writer of Hebrews warns us,
“30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”  Hebrews 10:30-31

1. To bring such to repentance.

“33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. 34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:
35 and all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.” Daniel 4:33-37

2. To bring judgement upon such.

“1 And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2 And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it.
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) 4 And the Lord spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
5 And the Lord came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. 8  With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and he departed.
10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.”  Numbers 12:1-10

3.To show His power and supremacy over all.

“ For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.”
Exodus 12:12

4. To punish people for their rebellion.

“27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of
the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
29 your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, 30 doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. 32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.” Numbers 14:27-33

Excerpts from the book SPIRITUAL ATTACKS

What is Spiritual Attack? Part 1
The world is spiritual in nature and there are so many things happening on planet earth that many are ignorant of. The spiritual world is real and we must come to terms with it if we ever dream of fulfilling our destinies on planet earth.

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”Hebrews 11:3

Since the physical world came from the spiritual world it means the spiritual controls the physical. This is one great truth we must register in our minds because failure to do so will cause a lot of problems for us here on planet earth.

Spiritual attack is a projected force sent against someone to harm a physical or a spiritual being.

Spiritual attack is launching spiritual missiles to destroy the life of someone.

Spiritual attack is a force released upon a life to manipulate for selfish or evil reasons

Spiritual attack is a program sent into one’s life to remote control one’s destiny.

Spiritual attack is sending spiritual assassins to terminate the spiritual or physical life of someone.

Spiritual attack is evil directed at someone in order to bring one to repentance.

Spiritual attack is allowing someone to be afflicted by evil spirits in order to work out a purpose.

Spiritual attack is a curse released upon someone to hinder such from fulfilling a particular aspect of his destiny.

Spiritual attack is a kind of punishment released on someone for violating spiritual laws.

From all the definitions above one might want to get confused about some of my definitions because it seems certain ones are contradictory or confusing. You need to understand that spiritual attacks can come from two kingdoms namely God’s kingdom and the devil’s kingdom.

Yes, you read that right. Spiritual attacks can come from God also. Let’s see some Scriptures to prove this point.

1.     God laid a strong curse upon Adam for disobeying His commandment.

“17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”Genesis 3:17

God placed another curse upon Cain for killing His brother.
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand.
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.”
Genesis 4:10-13
3.     God destroyed the wicked humans with flood in the days of Noah.

“And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”Genesis 6:13

4.     God brought plagues upon Pharaoh king of Egypt and his household for taking Abraham’s wife Sarah

“17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?”
Genesis 12:17-18

5.     God attacked and destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone and even Lot’s wife was killed along due to disobedience.

“24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;
25 and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:24-26

6.     God threatened to attack Abimelech king of Gerar for taking Abraham’s wife.

“But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.”    Genesis 20:3
7.     An angel from The Lord fought against Jacob.

“24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” Genesis 31:24,25

8.     God killed the first born in Egypt with the tenth plague.

“29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.
30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.” Exodus 12:29-30

9.     God destroyed the armies of Pharaoh in the red sea.

“ 28And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.”
Exodus 14:28-30
