That a born again believer can sin is quite evident in the New Testament.
“My little children, these things write I unto you, THAT YE SIN NOT.
AND IF ANY MAN SIN, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ
the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for
ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2
Here Apostle John was in his old age admonishing his children in
Christ. Saved souls are not supposed to sin but they can sin if they
choose to. AND IF ANY MAN SIN. The question one should then asked is
WHAT MAKES A SAVED SOUL TO SIN?
“LET NO MAN SAY WHEN HE IS TEMPTED, I AM TEMPTED OF GOD: for God cannot
be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: BUT EVERY MAN IS
TEMPTED, WHEN HE IS DRAWN AWAY OF HIS OWN LUST, AND ENTICED. Then when
lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is
finished, bringeth forth death.” James 1:13-15
“BUT EVERY MAN IS TEMPTED, WHEN HE IS DRAWN AWAY OF HIS OWN LUST, AND ENTICED…”
The above is very clear. Like I said we are free moral beings. Every
saved soul is tempted from time to time but yielding to it is the issue.
TEMPTATION IS JUST THE SUGGESTION TO DO EVIL
SIN IS YIELDING TO THE EVIL SUGGESTION.
The devil doesn’t force anyone to sin because it is against spiritual
laws. He can only persuade you and give you strong reasons why you
should sin. This is what he did to Eve in the Garden of Eden,
“And the serpent said unto the woman, YE SHALL NOT SURELY DIE: For God
doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, THEN YOUR EYES SHALL BE
OPENED, AND YE SHALL BE AS GODS, KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL.
And when
the woman SAW that the tree was GOOD FOR FOOD, and that it was PLEASANT
TO THE EYES, and a TREE TO BE DESIRED TO MAKE ONE WISE, she took of the
fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and
he did eat.” Genesis 3:4-6
Eve was a saved soul in the garden.
The devil via the serpent gave her reasons why she should eat the fruit.
She was not forced to eat it but she made her choice to eat it. She
violated 1 John 2:14
“Love not the world, neither the things that
are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is
not in him. For all that is in the world, the LUST OF THE FLESH, and
THE LUST OF THE EYES, and THE PRIDE OF LIFE, is not of the Father, but
is of the world” 1 John 2:15-16
Were the three dimensions of lust found in Eve? Yes they were.
LUST OF THE FLESH - tree was GOOD FOR FOOD
THE LUST OF THE EYES - that it was PLEASANT TO THE EYES
THE PRIDE OF LIFE - TREE TO BE DESIRED TO MAKE ONE WISE
This is what James was trying to explain. Every believer falls into sin
due the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. God
has given you the grace to overcome sin but you must exercise that power
by your own personal will.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. RESIST THE DEVIL, AND HE WILL FLEE FROM YOU” James 4:7
BELIEVERS ARE NOT MEANT TO SIN BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE SEED OF GOD IN THEM
“WHOSOEVER is BORN OF GOD doth not commit sin; FOR HIS SEED REMAINETH
IN HIM: and HE CANNOT SIN, because HE IS BORN OF GOD.” 1 John 3:9
This is the truth about God’s salvation. We should not sin because we
have received the power to overcome sin. His seed is in us. The power of
righteousness is in us but living the reality of it depends on your
walk with God. This is why I emphasize PERSONAL DEEP RELATIONSHIP WITH
THE HOLY SPIRIT.
“This I say then, WALK IN THE SPIRIT, AND YE
SHALL NOT FULFIL THE LUST OF THE FLESH. For the FLESH LUSTETH AGAINST
THE SPIRIT, AND THE SPIRIT AGAINST THE FLESH: and THESE ARE CONTRARY THE
ONE TO THE OTHER: SO THAT YE CANNOT DO THE THINGS THAT YE WOULD.”
Galatians 5:16-17
This will now take us into the very sensitive and deep issue about salvation in Christ.
WHAT REALLY IS SALVATION IN CHRIST?
